Is there a better combination? Please don’t mention welbutrin or ritalin…

I’m almost certain that I have ADD and it’s affecting me pretty bad. To get Ritalin or Adderall can I just go to any doctor, tell him my symptoms and he can write for one? Or do I have to go get lab tests, blood tests and other major tests? The reason I ask is because I have about 3 1/2 weeks left of school - extremely important ones - and if I’m gonna have to go through all that hassle of tons of lab tests I’m planning on forgetting all about it because I literally have no time. Thanks.

I run a business from my home, have two children and I work-out 2 hours everyday, play tennis three times a week, and eat nothing but grilled chicken and vegetables. I am EXTREMELY health conscious and take my lifestyle VERY seriously. I used to take Dexatrim to maintain an energetinc level throughout the day, however I was prescribed a low dose Ritalin to help me focus on my work. I haven’t taken the Dexatrim in weeks, but was only WONDERING if it were possible. Just an idea I was toying with and thought to ask here, to see if anyone else might have some extra details.

When you take your medication, what is it exactly that it does for you? I know it’s supposed to help you focus and concentrate. Can you explain how it helps you? For instance, if you’re reading and your mind normally wonders, does the med help keep you focused on what your reading (& your mind wonders less)?

The reason I ask is b/c I’ve taken both Ritalin and Strattera (& now Adderall) for concentration/focus problems and I’m not sure if it’s helping. I was on both meds for less than a month. W/ the Ritalin, I felt a little more focused but my mind still wondered. Do I just need to give the med more time to work?

I understand that the generic of Ritalin is methylin, I’m 35 and think I would like to try it. What are the side effects of this drug? Can I find an online doctor/pharmacy that is legit and inexpensive etc..? It cost a lot to visit general m.d.’s in person….
why do i need to grow up? weirdo ….
Yes, I think it is fine to “try” it, as brain chemistry with living in America there are imbalances etc.. so trying it I think is fine to do.

My son was diagnosed with ADHD and disruptive behavior disorder. We tried fish oil first but it didn’t work. So now he is on Ritalin 5 mg twice a day also goes to behavior therapy once a week it has helped a lot but when it starts to wear off he gets very red and very emotional. Is this just a side effect and has anyone had experience with this medication and their child?
I did request criticism from you people, I wanted experience with the same situation. I did take him to many pediatric psychologist stayed with the one I have now and started him on behavior therapy months before we ever started meds. He was very violent with me, his father, and his 1 year old brother. Along with many other problems. His preschool even tried to refer him to the School corp. psychologist. So do not jump to judgement.

My husband and sister in law were both prescribed cymbalta and ritalin together by the same doctor… for both of them it seems to me from the outside looking in at them that the cymbalta isn’t doing much for the depression, or if it is it is being counteracted by the anxiety and edginess that the ritilan causes… has anyone else heard of this combo taken together and if so, do you think it a was sucessfull combination?
so, you can stop the judgement now— if you read teh question you would see that these were prescribed by a doctor… I was just wondering is anyone else took these together and what the effects were… noone goes on here expecting a miraculous answer - it’s curiosity so get off your high horse

i took it at age 8 to adulthood about 30 mg and i am sorta screwed up physically and mentally now i wanted to know if any one can relate

I was diagnosed with ADHD as a child but my mom chose not to medicate me. While in China the doctor decided to try it out for the symptoms I told him about. It was like night and day and it felt so nice to be able to concentrate and live efficiently. I just got insurance since I got back to America. But my Urgent Care doctor said she couldn’t prescribe ritalin to me. Do I have to go to a psychiatrist or can a family doctor prescribe it for me? Thanks
And no lectures about using medication to curb psychological troubles please. I went through months of behavioral therapy with limited success.
